Village Spotlight: Avenues for Justice
Avenues for Justice team at the unveiling of Avenues for Justice Way in New York City on Avenue B.
We’re lucky to work with some of the best organizations out there, comprised of talented, passionate individuals working to repair their corners of the world. This month we want to highlight Avenues for Justice which is celebrating its 45th Anniversary this year.
AFJ has diverted thousands of young people, ages 13–24, across New York City from a punitive criminal justice system to a community-based support program designed to help them avoid future crime and lead successful lives. In addition to providing ongoing court advocacy, Avenues for Justice provides enrichment programs for workforce training, education, and mentoring. AFJ serves Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) court-involved and formerly incarcerated Participants, along with young people at-risk of involvement with the criminal justice system. On average, 93% of Avenues for Justice’s court-involved Participants are not reconvicted of a new crime within three years of enrollment.
We are so proud to count Avenues for Justice as part of our village.
